StreetSense
Transport Network Monitoring in the IoT Age
The Internet-of-Things (IoT) is making a mark in traffic and transport monitoring. Mobility Sensing is leading the way by developing, deploying and operating new generation IoT sensor networks. Our sensor networks are based on compact, fully autonomous, ultra-low-power IoT sensor pods, that are easy to install and budget friendly to operate. This allows us to deploy and operate high resolution sensor networks, producing live, rich data on the state and usage of your complete road network.
One Device,
Multiple Applications
StreetSense continuously provides you with all the information you want to know about the current state and use of your road. Every 10 minutes, StreetSense generates incredibly rich live data on your street:
- Traffic intensity – absolute value and relative traffic intensity indicator
- Temperatures at, and 10 cm below, the road surface
- Electrical Conductivity at the road surface – as absolute value and as road surface condition indicator; dry, wet, gritted
Introducing StreetSense
- StreetSense is designed to take every street online at minimum costs.
- Its rugged casing is jampacked with sensors.
- Depending on the configuration used, a StreetSense device will run between one and three years on a single battery charge.
- The casing design allows for fast installation and quick swaps of the device.

Analytic Live Dashboard
The live and historic data are conveniently presented in a secure web dashboard in lists, charts and maps. You can filter and export all the data for further analysis. Live data can be ingested into other information systems using the StreetSense API.
Use StreetSense data to:
- Get a complete picture of traffic flows on your street network
- Notice and comprehend temporal variations in your traffic patterns
- Detect and combat cut-through traffic
- Optimise road and intersection designs
- Optimise your gritting operations
- Anticipate road deck overheating
Have a Go!
There are three ways to use StreetSense:
- Starter Kit – We install one device for you to evaluate for one year, with full access to the dashboard, data export and API.
- Sensing as a service - In Belgium and The Netherlands you can order StreetSense as a service. For a small fixed monthly fee we take care of the installation and maintenance. You only need to put the data to use!
- Device purchase - Want to build your own sensor network and/or use your own data platform? Then check out our Reseller Proposition.
Give us a call or send us a message and we will get back to you right away.

Proven Solution
StreetSense devices are tested against extreme weather conditions in a climate chamber. The sensors have survived blistering heat waves and freezing winter periods in operational conditions without a single device failure.
The road condition data were successfully benchmarked against data from a high-end conventional winter conditions monitoring system under varying environmental conditions. The tests proved the StreetSense road data provide valuable insights in the distribution of road surface temperatures and road surface conditions in the road network.
The traffic data were successfully benchmarked against data from manual traffic counts, a video traffic counter and induction loops under varying environmental conditions. The tests proved the StreetSense traffic counts are on par with conventional induction loop counters and that StreetSense data is superior to video traffic counters during night-time and poor weather conditions.
Repeating the benchmark tests under extreme weather conditions proved the quality of the StreetSense data is not affected by heavy downpours, or when the device is covered by snow or ice.
